Spotlighting Celebrities on International Women’s Day

The 8th of March is upon us, and we have the front row seat to the festivities and celebrations of women across the globe. People worldwide have taken to social media to post videos, pictures, and dedication messages to celebrate their closest and dearest women. With thousands of social media engagements coming from celebrities and influencers, we would like to highlight some of the most liked and shared celebrity posts and dedications this year.

Bindi Sue Irwin is an Australian television personality, conservationist, zookeeper, and actress. The daughter of late conservationist and television personality Steve Irwin took to social media with her brother Robert posting about her work and article about her. Together she and her brother celebrated their family of conservationists and encouraged women in their field of work. Robert posted, “For as long as I can remember, most of the main guiding forces for me growing up have been women. Of course, the most significant of which is my Mum. She leads by example – strong, stoic and steadfast, she never backs down.”

Danielle Jane Minogue, an Australian singer, actress, and television personality, posted a picture of her young self celebrating her journey to becoming the woman she is today. In her post, she writes a letter to her younger self that readers have found inspirational and profoundly touching. Her career started when she was a young girl on TV. Growing under the media eye is significant and often challenging in most women in television. She urges her followers to also reflect on their young selves this women’s day.

Kareena Kapoor Khan, the Indian actress who appears in Hindi films, also took to Instagram posting a picture with some of the women she looks up to, including herself. She states that every day is women’s day, highlighting their importance in our societies and lives. She ended her post with “Pride, Love, Equality, Respect”.

Natasha Thahane, South African actress, model and media personality, took South Africans by surprise as she celebrated International Woman’s day with a pregnancy announcement. The Netflix Blood and Water actress chose to keep her pregnancy in her life private until now. She broke the news with a striking image from a recent photoshoot, and many fellow celebrities have shared their joy celebrating with her on social media.

Alongside celebrities, Presidents and politicians also took time to write particular dedication messages to celebrities and women in their states and nations, such as the President of Zimbabwe, H.E Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Liam Payne, an English singer-songwriter, posted a picture of the special women in his life joining other male celebrities who celebrated the women in their lives on their social media.

Hugh Jackman, an Australian actor, went the extra mile with a video describing the importance of women in our society, simply explaining that we cannot live without them. His video gained massive traction fast, and many celebrities have retweeted this appreciation message.

Viola Davis, an American actress and activist, also reposted a motivational video of Michelle Obama delivering an inspiring speech about the strength and capabilities of all who hope. She posted this also as a celebration of women’s history month which is the backbone of international women’s day.

With one of the largest followings on Instagram, Kim Kardashian also made a dedicated post to celebrate all women alongside marketing her brand, mainly for women. She also encourages all women to chase their dreams.

International Organisations have recently become prominent online, sharing posters and information on the relevant platforms. On Twitter, UN Women and WHO have made relevant posts celebrating women working on making the world a better place and volunteering with these organisations. They also offer advice and encouragement for women everywhere.

Finally, with the crisis in Ukraine, Sir Keir Rodney Starmer KCB QC, the British politician, gave a special mention to the Ukrainian women on Twitter.

Social media brings us closer together and blurs the boundaries of borders and time. It is constantly refreshing to celebrate together with members of the public and all our favourite celebrities. Happy International Women’s day! We appreciate all the women in all their spheres of life.
