Ranked among the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women by some of the leading ranking platforms around the globe, Roshni Nadar is our female hero of the week. From a media student to a Tech leader, she has repeatedly shown honour, ambition, and determination in all her work. Roshni Nadar has frequently paved the way for women across the globe and continues to lead by example, making her a more than perfect candidate for our heroine of the week.
Roshni Nadar Malhotra is an Indian billionaire businesswoman, the chairperson of HCL Technologies, and the first woman to lead a listed IT company in India. She is the only child of HCL founder and billionaire industrialist Shiv Nadar. As the only child, Roshni has always had a lot of pressure to take over the company and continue her parents’ legacy. She states, “Along with my dad, my mother’s pretty high up there. She’s a star! Her interests are so diverse – she’s an art collector and a sports enthusiast.” Under the guidance and encouragement from her family, she branched out and explored all possibilities allowing her to learn and grow into the inspiration she has become.
After living most of her life in Delhi, she studied Communication at North-western University then attained an MBA from Kellogg School of Management. She is also a trained classical musician and a famous philanthropist. Many people fear change, especially in tertiary education, but Roshni illustrates that sometimes change is necessary, and risks can be taken. From Media to business, Roshni has always put in extraordinary effort and continues to break barriers and push forward with every project. The company that she recently took over from her father has shown impressive growth in the market capital and continues to make news in the business sector. In 2019 she was also labelled as the richest woman in India. Furthermore, being a woman in a heavily male-dominated world, she has been beyond exemplary, being a role model for many aspiring young Indian girls.
Roshni is also a philanthropist and continues to give back and volunteer in every way she can. As the CEO of the HCL Corporation, Roshni Nadar was a trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, which runs a not-for-profit in Chennai. She also collaborates with several organizations and contributes to leadership training for the youth. Roshni is also dedicated to environmental preservation. She has set up ‘The Habitats’ trust to protect India’s natural habitats and indigenous species from creating and conserving sustainable ecosystems. As a mother of two, she leads by example, just like her mom did for her.
The philanthropist, mother, businesswoman, and billionaire has taught the World how to be persistent, trailblazer, and give back. We admire a woman who is not bound by a single job or passion, and for that, we are excited to showcase women like Roshni Nadar and inspire each other to follow in her footsteps.
