The Women’s Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria recently held their 3rd Conference at the hall of the Serdem Cultural Centre in Hasakah with the theme; “The Women’s Internal Security Forces will break the chain of betrayal and raise the flag of freedom” with the participation of the members of the Women’s Internal Security Forces and 400 delegations from the Hewarî, Sotoro-Jin, the Natoro-Jin, the Kongra Star and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
Women Leaders in the Conference noted the importance of self-defence and how women are supposed to be on alert in their given environment;
Firyal Hesen, a board member of the Internal Affairs of North and East Syria, in a speech, said;
“Our conference is a response to the betrayers, the dominant mentality and the attacks on our region from all around.”
Democratic Union Party (PYD) Co-Presidency Council member Foza Yûsif also stated in her speech that;
“There is a systematic attack against women all over the world, and the patriarchal mentality has become a threat to nature and humanity. “We face the third world war centred in our country. Women are targeted in attacks because they have taken historic steps in this region. Kurdish, Arab, and Syrian Assyrian women have shown humanity and the world that another life is possible. They become a hope for women struggling for their freedom against the patriarchal mentality. The revolution led by women became a hope for women all around the world.
“Women have broken the chains of slavery with the power they receiving from the women of Kurdistan; the presence of each female member of the security forces gives strength and confidence to women and society.”
Cewahir Osman, a Board member of the Council of Martyrs’ Families in North and East Syria, said in her speech that they had reached this stage by paying heavy prices.
“We commemorate all our martyrs in the person of Martyr Bêrîtan, Sara and Rûken, who dealt a big blow to Turkey and its collaborators. These martyrs led the revolution. We should protect their struggle and make their dreams come true.”
Member of the Women’s Coordination in North and East Syria, Emine Osê, stated that a genocidal attack is carried out against women in North and East Syria. “Women have their own mechanism to protect themselves. This mechanism is the independent organisation. Self-defence is needed for women.”
