The first episode of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s new podcast, in which she will tackle the stereotypes and labels women encounter, is now available on Spotify.
The Archetypes podcast, a Spotify original, and its introductory episode, “Don’t trust the type,” were both made available on Tuesday.
The first episode, titled “The Misconception of Ambition with Serena Williams,” has Meghan, 41, and her friend talking about Serena’s tennis career, retirement, and how they both experienced discrimination and unfavorable stereotypes as ambitious women.
The Duchess recounts how, despite not being Catholic, she spent six years attending Immaculate Heart Catholic School when it underwent a rebranding and adopted feminism that “trickled down into every element of [her] education and life.”
She was informed that as young women, their prospects were “limitless” and that “ambition was the whole idea” for them. “Until I started dating my new spouse, I don’t recall ever having the negative connotations associated with the word “ambitious.
According to some, ambition is a horrible, awful thing, especially for a woman. It’s quite difficult to unfeel it now that I’ve felt the hostility behind it, she said.
“I can’t unsee it either in the millions of girls and women who consistently make themselves considerably smaller.”
Williams, 40, who the Duchess describes as “someone who exemplifies the spirit of ambition,” is given the opportunity to speak on the meaning of the term and its implications. They also talk about how her buddy has been impacted by the labels that apply to women.
The mother of two continues, “There’s a myth that if you’re ambitious, you have an agenda, you’re calculated, selfish, pushy, or a climber.
And that if you’re so courageous, powerful, or ferocious, you somehow deserve everything that is thrown at you — no matter how excessive or unfair it may be, and even when it is more than most people could handle. most people, especially guys.

Mariah Carey will be a guest on Meghan’s Archetypes podcast the next week, and each of her guests will have “worn the brunt of the labels” they will critique and challenge.
