One might expect a bottomless champaign, a large church and an extravagant gown. Recently this image has changed. Celebrities are opting for smaller, intimate events. Because Amazons Watch loves stories about the triumph of love, we could not be more excited to talk about the most recent wedding in the celeb world, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck.

Musicians Seeking Inspiration from Their Roots

Following the most recent announcement and single from Beyonce in the past few weeks, the music industry has been on the edge of its seats. The album Renaissance is set to be released in July, and fans could not be more excited. The additional single that was released this month was an extra gift. Although this song has already reached significant popularity with its house music vibes and rhythm, other whispers of the song have been heard. According to some South Africans, the album cover and the song have significant similarities to that of well-known late South African artist Brenda Fassie.

Filmmaking, production, costume design, scriptwriting, and role-play are some of the many ingredients that go into delivering a noteworthy movie, the rigour that goes into play can only be fully understood by the individuals themselves. The Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards is one of Africa’s great entertainment platforms that is determined to reward such hard work of the stakeholders in the film/ TV production value chain in the region. Driven with the aim to recognize and reward African content and talent, the AMVCA in no small way showcases the individual stories embedded in the rich African culture while shedding light on myths and giving voice to the truths of Africa.

The African continent is endowed with an abundance of talented people and it is always exciting when the amazing achievements and works of these people are spotlighted across national and global platforms. On the 14th of May 2022, Multichoice’s annual accolade tagged the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award, once again recognized outstanding achievements in film and television production across the region. In keeping with the spirit of the AMVCA, there was an array of elegant gowns, snazzy suits, and the buzz and excitement from a crowd of talent. Amazons Watch spotted our Celebrity Amazons whose achievements stood out from the rest, and thus made the list of our Top 10 female awardees:

Best New Artist and Best Pop Solo Performance: Olivia Rodrigo Olivia Isabel Rodrigo, an American singer-songwriter and actress, is our youngest awardee winning a Grammy for the Best New Artist and another for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album. She was nominated in 7 different categories for her new music, and she performed her hit song Driver’s Licence at the same event. Women empowerment! – The African All-Female Musical Supergroup Les Amazones d’Afrique

Les Amazones d’Afrique, a group of women musicians from Africa aims to empower women and speak against violence. It is their founding principle to take initiative to empower women against all sorts of violence like spousal abuse, second-class treatment, domestic violence, female genital mutilation, etc. The outset of Les Amazones d’Afrique dates back to 2014. Valérie Malot, head of the booking, publishing, and management firm 3dFamily, encouraged several star singers to take an initiative and unitedly fight against violence against women in Africa and beyond. The consequent 2017 album, “République Amazone,” featured notable Malian artists such as Oumou Sangaré, Mamani Keïta, Angeìlique Kidjo, and Mariam Doumbia.
