London, United Kingdom – [April 2025] – At a defining moment for international cooperation and gender equity, Her Excellency Christiane Aquino Bonomo, Deputy Consul General of Brazil in London, delivered a compelling goodwill message at the 2025 Global Power Women Awards (GPW Awards). Hosted in London by the Centre for Economic and Leadership Development (CELD)—a UN ECOSOC-accredited organization, the ceremony gathered changemakers from across the globe to champion inclusion, equality, and transformational leadership.
Addressing a distinguished audience of diplomats, global influencers, and women leaders, H.E. Bonomo set the tone with a bold call for inclusive international cooperation. “We are here today at a pivotal moment in international action,” she began, “a profound transformation in which the principles of multilateralism and cooperation are being tested by a crisis that requires urgent and collective action.”
Amid mounting political tensions, growing global inequality, and rapid technological shifts, H.E. Bonomo underscored the urgency of rethinking governance frameworks with gender inclusion at the core. “Women’s rights are still too often seen as a theory,” she noted. “Yet the most effective response to the crisis of multilateralism and international cooperation is more multilateralism and more international cooperation—stronger and more inclusive in all areas—and with greater participation of women.”
Brazil’s leadership on the global stage, she emphasized, is anchored in this belief. The country is preparing to host two critical events this year: the BRICS Summit and the Climate Conference in Belém, in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. In both, gender equality will be given center stage. She highlighted key initiatives like the BRICS Bank’s goal to increase women’s representation to 40% in professional and administrative positions by 2026, and Brazil’s commitment to advancing gender-based climate solutions at the UN Climate Conference.
Quoting the United Nations Climate Change Innovation Framework, she said: “Women’s participation at the political level results in greater accountability for citizens’ needs, often increasing cooperation and delivering more sustainable peace. At the local level, the inclusion of women leads to tangible improvements in the outcomes of climate-related projects.”
In her powerful conclusion, H.E. Bonomo introduced a principle rooted in Brazil’s national values: democracy and fair representation. “A balanced global system must rest on a firm foundation of justice and representation,” she declared. “And no foundation can be built without the voice of women. The role of shaping a peaceful and prosperous future has never been more significant.”
The hall erupted in applause as she was warmly praised for showcasing a Brazil beyond football—a Brazil deeply invested in democratic values, gender parity, and global unity. One attendee remarked, “When you spoke of democracy and fair representation to ensure women have a seat at the table, it truly resonated. Thank you for showing us the spirit of Brazil.”
Her remarks were followed by a moment of vibrant recognition and camaraderie among participants, with a rousing cheer for the next speaker—underscoring the unifying energy that the GPW Awards aim to inspire each year.
A Diplomatic Force for Inclusion and Multilateralism
H.E. Christiane Aquino Bonomo, with her diplomatic insight and advocacy for equity, continues to champion Brazil’s role in forging a more inclusive, cooperative international system. Her message at the 2025 Global Power Women Awards reaffirmed the critical role of women in driving multilateral transformation and building a future where no one is left behind.
